OYSAA Hosts Unveiling and Training Session for GAPLOG: Revolutionizing Billboard Management in Oyo State.

The Oyo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OYSAA) on December 23, 2024, hosted the unveiling of GAPLOG, a Geographic Information System (GIS) technological tool developed by Bytes and Barter for OYSAA and to be deployed by the agency as one of the deliverables under the State Action Business Enabling Reforms (SABER) initiative. This innovative tool is designed to enhance operational efficiency by GIS-tagging of Advertising billboards in Oyo State, thereby streamlining asset management, improving regulatory compliance, and optimizing revenue generation.

The event brought together key stakeholders in the Out-Of-Home advertising sector in Oyo State, including representatives from the Oyo State Out-Of-Home Practitioners, the Outdoor Advertising Association of Nigeria (OAAN), officials from OYSAA, and the Bytes and Barter team which consisted of the developers and GIS expert of GAPLOG.

During the unveiling, participants engaged in a detailed training session showcasing GAPLOG’s functionalities and potential impact on advertising asset management and compliance monitoring. The session highlighted the tool’s ability to enhance revenue generation for Oyo State through improved data accuracy and streamlined operations. Feedback mechanisms were distributed to capture insights and recommendations from stakeholders, ensuring GAPLOG aligns with the agency’s operational goals and fosters a collaborative approach toward regulatory compliance and revenue optimization.

The Director – General Of OYSAA, Oludolapo Eso – Ajanaku stated “The delivery of this SABER milestone reflects the commitment of His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde, and OYSAA to innovation and effective governance. This initiative underscores our dedication to creating a robust, efficient, and sustainable advertising ecosystem in Oyo State.”

Participants commended the Government of His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde, for his transformative initiatives, which have significantly strengthened the regulatory and operational framework in the State, particularly in the OOH advertising sector.

Representing practitioners, Mr. Tony Rowland Awobode, President of the Oyo State Out-of-Home Practitioners, and Rev. Oloyede of OAAN, praised the introduction of GAPLOG. They emphasized that the integration of ICT and GIS technology was long overdue, addressing critical needs for operational efficiency, enhanced revenue generation, and improved compliance within the sector.

As OYSAA looks ahead, the agency remains committed to intensifying its operations to achieve the following:

  • Removal of illegal, abandoned, dilapidated, and clustered billboards.
  • Strict enforcement to curb the reckless erection of advertising structures.
  • Further enhancement of its revenue-generating capabilities through innovative tools like GAPLOG.

These measures reaffirm OYSAA’s dedication to fostering a thriving and aesthetically appealing Out-of-Home advertising environment while boosting economic growth and environmental sustainability in Oyo State.
