Strengthen of Religious Harmony: Makinde Orders Signage Removal

To foster religious harmony in Oyo State, His Excellency. Governor Seyi Makinde has mandated the removal of a signage at Yidi, a Muslim prayer ground in Ibadan, seen as a potential source of religious discord.

The directive was revealed by Mr. Oludolapo Eso-Ajanaku, Director-General of the Oyo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OYSAA), during a media briefing in Ibadan. He underscored the Governor’s firm stance against actions or rhetoric that could spark religious unrest, affirming the State’s dedication to ensuring the freedom of religious practice as a key factor in maintaining peace.

Mr. Eso-Ajanaku pointed out that installing religious signs near other faiths’ worship sites is not permissible, as it could lead to conflict. He criticized certain advertisers for their disregard for the industry’s ethical standards, emphasizing that advertisements likely to incite conflict on any grounds, including religion, are strictly prohibited.

He concluded with a stern warning that OYSAA will rigorously enforce these rules, penalizing and potentially banning advertisers who fail to comply with the State’s guidelines for responsible advertising.
